Catalytic Ozonation Combined with Conventional Treatment Technologies for the Recycling of Automobile Service Station Wastewater

The ample increase in water scarcity and depletion of natural resources due to their overconsumption the contamination sources becomes more challenging day by day. This situation has pushed scientific community cope with it providing alternative solutions. Therefore, is indeed important conduct a sustainable study on recycling wastewater for particular purpose. Taking this into account, an effort was made develop novel hybrid treatment system that applied both conventional advanced oxidation processes. In study, integrated designed effective followed automobile service station (ASSWW) which comprised sedimentation (sed), catalytic ozonation, adsorption, filtration. current investigation, two catalysts/adsorbents, granular activated carbon (GAC) rice husk (RH) were employed individually combination first time studied process performance compared evaluated. obtained results revealed combination-I (Sed–O3/GAC) efficient than combination-II (Sed–O3/RH); maximum removal efficiency COD 100% 80%, respectively. addition, combination-III (Sed–O3/RH + GAC) economical others employing 35% each absorbent adsorption column. Moreover, Sed–O3/RH GAC 99%, 100%, (89%, 100%) turbidity, COD, BOD5, fecal coliform, potentially toxic metals (Cd, Pb, As), oil grease, respectively, at optimized conditions (O3 = 82.5 mg/L; contact 18 min catalyst dose RH 200 g each). Furthermore, treated sample complied WWF-recommended Irrigation Water Quality Guidelines (IWQGs) class D. biodegradability (BOD5/COD ratio) observed from 0.41 0.83. proposed efficacious may be ASSWW irrigation purposes.
